Lawrence Reszetar, Minnesota’s Role in a Global Economy and the Emergence of Subnational Commercial Diplomacy

Laurence Reszetar is the Deputy Director and the Director of International Business Strategy in the Minnesota Trade Office (MTO). Laurence joined the MTO in March 2014 as the state’s first Director for Foreign Direct Investment, In March 2019 he added additional responsibilities for directing Minnesota’s international engagement. In January 2025, he was promoted to Deputy Director of MTO. As such, he and his team develop and administer the state-wide strategy to use international connections and foreign direct investment to diversify and grow Minnesota’s economy for everyone and to identify opportunities for building ties with foreign governments, clusters, and companies. Prior to MTO, he was a practicing attorney at the Maslon Law Firm. He has consulted and lobbied on international trade issues in Washington, D.C., and was a researcher and program administrator at the Council on Foreign Relations in New York City as both a Research Associate and Program Associate.
